The original HCG Diet protocol offered options for vegetarians that those dieters who eat meat could not consume during Phase 2 – rapid weight loss. According to Dr. A.T.W. Simeons, vegetarians should drink one pint of non-fat milk each day, with a current recommendation of only buying organic since hormone use in cows has changed significantly since the 1950s. Carrying out the HCG Diet for vegetarians is not difficult at all if you eat fish or shellfish, as you will still have many protein options available to you each day.

Following the HCG Diet vegetarian menu plan is the same as for everyone else – you get to choose one protein source and one vegetable at each meal (lunch and dinner). A piece of approved fruit or handful of approved berries is also allowed with each meal. Breakfast consists of one apple or small grapefruit. If desired, you may have one egg at breakfast. A small apple may be consumed as a snack between meals.

All other foods and seasoning options are the same on the HCG Diet for vegetarians’ menu. Drink water throughout the day and with each meal. Coffee or tea are also allowed, with approved sweeteners such as stevia, and one tablespoon of non-fat milk for the coffee in addition to what you may drink as a protein option each day.

Protein Options for Vegetarians on the HCG Diet Phase 2

The HCG Diet meal plan for vegetarians who consume fish and shellfish is quite extensive. Protein options that come from the sea include:

  • Mahi-Mahi
  • Snapper
  • Pollack
  • Grouper
  • Flounder
  • Tilapia
  • Lobster
  • Crab
  • Shrimp

Other protein options on the HCG Diet vegetarian food list include:

  • Non-fat milk
  • Cottage cheese
  • Eggs
  • Plain, non-fat yogurt
  • Tofu

When following the HCG Diet for vegetarians, please buy organic dairy options to avoid an adverse impact on your metabolism. Vegetarians often lose weight a bit slower than those HCG dieters who consume meat. Dairy products may slow down your overall weight loss, but you will still see excellent success with the HCG Diet.

Protein Options for Vegetarians on the HCG Diet Phase 3

When you get to Phase 3 of the HCG Diet vegetarian meal plan, you will be able to incorporate many other protein choices into your daily diet. Some hard cheeses, as well as butter (preferably organic from grassfed cows), are included when you enter Phase 3.

During this phase of the HCG Diet, you will also increase your calorie intake each day. You will begin by going up to 1,000 calories for a week or two before raising that to 1,200. For those who are going to repeat Phase 2 to further their weight loss, Phase 3 may be shorter than for those who have completed their weight loss.
